Julie O’Connell

Julie joined the DanceWorks Chicago board in 2008. A resident of the Lakeview neighborhood, Julie is a physical therapist and athletic trainer who specializes in the treatment of dancers and performing artists. She is skillful and knowledgeable in prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of dance-related injuries through the use of manual therapy and therapeutic exercise.

Julie received her degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1994.  An integral member of AthletiCo, Julie is the Performing Arts Program Manager at AthletiCo’s East Bank Club location.  She has extensive experience working with dancers and performers from The Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Broadway in Chicago, and various other national and international companies.

She serves on the board of the directors for the performing arts Special Interest Group (PASIG) of the American Physical Therapy Association and consults for Dance/USA on the Dancer Health Task Force. She has also worked with the USA Women’s Soccer team at the 2003 World Cup and helped the team to win a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.  When she is not working, Julie enjoys spending time with her yellow lab, Bailey, and stays active through running and cycling.
