Digital Dance360

DanceWorks Chicago is dedicated to creating a safe space for artists and audiences, now more so than ever.

DanceWorks Chicago’s Dance360 programming is celebrating its five years of commitment to young artists.  A frequent symbol for the 5th anniversary is Wood, representing strength, wisdom, and endurance. The circular rings in a tree represent a journey. As Team DWC looks ahead, wood, a traditional material used for building, is a wonderful inspiration as DanceWorks Chicago continues to provide a platform for early career movers and makers.

Prioritizing the well-being of artists and being sensitive to shifting resources of space, time, and dollars, Dance360 programming has migrated from an in-person program to a Zoom platform. Doing so opens the Dance360 circle to experiences and innovation that Team DWC is excited to explore with you!

Instead of simply trying to deliver in-person content on a digital platform, our approach to Digital Dance360 has been crafted to maximize our time together while being sensitive to housemates/roommates, acknowledging the challenges of limited space, and understanding that Zoom fatigue is a thing.

Described by dancers as “inspiring”, “impactful”, “refreshing”, and “transformative”, DanceWorks Chicago’s Dance360 programming incorporates a holistic approach to dance training and artistic development. “Dancers need a diverse set of tools to be successful in the studio, on stage, and in life. Dance360 will help young artists identify, develop, and utilize these tools on their journey through dance.” — DWC Artistic Director Julie Nakagawa.

From Digital Dance360 Summer Dancers:

“I loved that even though we were online there was still a sense of community.”

“My expectations were that Digital Dance360 would be an ‘all around’ amazing learning experience. Not just about working on technique or executing the company’s rep but really digging deep into ourselves and learning so much more about what is important right now. These expectations were met and then exceeded.”

“The faculty was amazing; they all wanted to see us improve. Each faculty member really didn’t want us to be a cookie cutter version of someone else but they celebrated our individuality and uniqueness!!”

“The heart and intention of DWC is really unique. The warmth, care, and nurturing experience of DWC programming is apparent.”

I loved the opportunity to discuss deeper concepts; asking questions and reflecting is something I value greatly. I appreciate dance communities which encourage dancers to be THINKERS, to have ideas…I am still developing myself in this way; it has taken some time for me to start allowing myself to express and project my ideas audibly and physically. I feel like DWC is a place that cultivates dancer’s growth in this way.
