“My inspiration does not take orders from me. I take orders from my inspiration.”
- Angelique Kidjo
Jane Acker joined the DanceWorks Chicago board in April 2019 because a) she believes in the intangible value of movement-based expression in urban spaces, and b) she believes in DanceWorks’ role in amplifying artists’ opportunity to create and ours to observe. Chicago’s rhythm is set by those who dare to dance with her.
Jane knows this because she was born in Chicago during the hottest summer on record. She left the Midwest in 2013 to earn her bachelor’s degree in quantitative economics and dance from Tufts University. She also became Program Director at WMFO freeform radio and deejayed her show “Funkin’ Gonuts.”
Jane is passionate about live arts, analog things, learning new languages, and urban planning. In her free time, she plays capoeira with Gingarte Capoeira Chicago, participates in Urban Land Institute, and moves and volunteers with various dance groups. She spends her days at Newcastle Limited, which owns and operates a $1.3 billion portfolio of retail and multifamily assets in Chicago. There she analyzes real estate investment and development opportunities to make financial returns jive with the formation and support of enlivened urban communities. In that spirit, Jane is grateful to support DanceWorks Chicago.
