DanceWorks Chicago’s DanceBytes blends a dynamic dance presentation with informative behind-the-scenes insights. Held at times in a studio and at times in a theater, DanceBytes is an opportunity to connect with dance and dancers through an intimate look into the artistic journey. The creation of new work as well as the dances themselves are vehicles for DWC dancers and audiences to investigate a wide range of dance techniques, movement styles, and artistic approaches.

DanceMoves Choreographer Shannon Alvis will unveil and discuss her new work for DanceWorks Chicago.

Originally from Greenwood, Indiana, Shannon Alvis received her training at Butler University and the University of Utah. She began her career with the second company of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago under the guidance of Julie Nakagawa and Andreas Bottcher, then going on to dance and perform professionally with HSDC for nine years. In 2009, Shannon went on to further her growth as a dancer at Nederlands Dans Theater under the direction of Jim Vincent and Paul Lightfoot. During her time in Chicago and Europe, Shannon toured internationally dancing works by many world renowned choreographers such as: Jiri Kylian, Nacho Duato, William Forsythe, Ohad Naharin, Twyla Tharp, Daniel Ezralow, and Crystal Pite. Having since returned back to Chicago, and after having given birth to a little baby girl, Shannon is once again sharing her artistry with the community. She has appeared in several productions at the Lyric Opera, is on faculty at the Joffrey Academy, and is now beginning to focus her creativity into the development of her choreographic voice.
