Today’s the day: DanceWorks Chicago’s Always Moving Day out of our home at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.

Grateful to Gail Kalver for the introduction and to the Ruth Page Center for welcoming a new neighbor to the in-residence commUNITY in January 2008!  Through the years, Team DWC developed a menu of offerings to build commUNITY:

  • Open Company Class: always wallet-friendly and always moving
  • DanceChance: DanceWorks Chicago first program! Based on the idea of open mic night, DanceChance was designed to encourage creativity and a sense of adventure on the part of artists and audience as well as to bring communities together to learn more about each other. Through the years, additional partners included the Lou Conte Dance Studio and Chicago Dance History Project
  • DanceBytes: a free, behind-the-scenes look at the work of art in the studio, hosted by choreographers
  • DanceFlight: like a wine flight, a sampling of assorted dances to fill a one-hour dance card followed by an informal, post-performance meet the artist session hosted by dancers
  • Open Company Audition: on stage in the Ruth Page Center Theater, free and open to public viewing

Plus, a decade after moving into the Ruth Page Center, DanceWorks Chicago embarked on a pARTnership with Thodos Dance Chicago around the revisioning of New Dances, which continued through 2025.

DanceWorks Chicago invested into being a Good Dance Citizen within the Ruth Page Center walls and beyond. Team DWC hopes to have inspired other Good Dance Citizens while building commUNITY locally, nationally, and internationally.

Please feel free to pop in to say “hi” / “bye”, if you’d like, share a hug, grab a button, take a look at the DanceWorks Chicago Alumni Scrapbook (before it heads to the archives of the Newberry Library along with other DWC materials!), and offer a Throwback Thursday memory on our post-it board!

Looking forward…to smooth moves!
