DanceWorks Chicago and Harris Theater announce a call for sound artists! Eat to the Beat Sound Competition DWC is looking for musicians, DJs, and spoken word artists to score music or otherwise create a soundscape for choreographer Alex Ketley's work If Ever (an Ocean) Relinquished. Interested in the effect of sound/music on the presentation and perception of a dance, DWC is launching this competition and welcomes submissions for consideration to accompany the dance which will be presented during DWC's appearance at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance as part of the Eat to the Beat lunchtime series on Tuesday, February 23, 2010.
WHO: This competition is open to any music artist living in the Chicago area. WHAT: A movement-based work, If Ever (an Ocean) Relinquished, will be presented with a soundscape especially selected from applicants to this competition. Alex Ketley's choreography will take on new dimensions, adding an extra layer of excitement and interest for dancers and audience members. WHEN: Submissions will be accepted through Friday, January 15, 2010. Applicants will be notified of their status by Monday, February 1, 2010. Winner must be prepared to provide DanceWorks Chicago with a performance quality CD of the soundscape by Friday, February 5, 2010. HOW: WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU? The chance to have your music/poetry/sound heard and be a co-creator of a dance, priceless! If live performance is possible and can be integrated with the dance on stage, then this option can be explored (live performance possibility has no bearing on selection of the winner). Additionally, the selected applicant will receive 2 Round-Trip Tickets to any destination in the continental United States, Transportation provided by United Airlines (restrictions apply), and ten tickets to the Eat to the Beat performance at the Harris Theater on Tuesday, February 23, 2010. |
