is a young organization not even five years old, but based on the work
they presented at Chenery Auditorium Friday night, they've got an old

Embracing a global perspective of contemporary dance, DWC's repertoire represents the work of dancemakers creating in Chicago, nationally, and internationally. DWC's milestone 5th anniversary season (2011-2012) focuses on the female choreographic voice, complementing the previous season's emphasis on the male choreographer which featured new creations by Bril Barrett, Brian Enos, and James Gregg. New work by Autumn Eckman, Monique Haley (collaboration with Muntu Dance Theater of Chicago), and Nelly van Bommel (Dance Magazine's 25 to Watch, 2010) will enter the rep this year and will be considered for touring in 2012-2013. DWC partnered with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on Magical Movements, a one-hour program highlighting each musical family and building an orchestra in front of the audience's eyes. A narrated program, the performance includes well-known favorites like Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and culminates in Britten's The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Choreography by Stuttgart Ballet's resident choreographer Christian Spuck brings the music to life! Especially for younger audiences, although enjoyable for dance and music lovers of all ages, Magical Movements is now part of our regular touring repertoire for the 2012-2013 season. DWC desires to impact the world of dance in profound ways, whether through an open audition, master class, meet the artist conversation, or performance, DWC invests in relationships with communities. DWC is dedicated to creating an environment conducive to nurturing experiences of significance for everyone from artist to audience. With an inspiring and diverse palette of artists and dances, DanceWorks Chicago is always moving. Our ability to bring people closer to dance and dancers is our pleasure. |
