DanceWorks Chicago is excited to announce a call for artists for DanceMoves, a choreography competition to identify and highlight three Chicago-based choreographers to create NEW work in honor of DanceWorks Chicago’s 10th Anniversary Season!

 

The DETAILS:
WHO: Chicago-based dance makers, all genres, all levels of experience
WHAT: A new work in honor of this anniversary year using “10”, “TEN”, as a point of departure
WHERE: In our home at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 North Dearborn

WHEN: Autumn 2016, possible creative periods September 19-23, September 26-30, October 3-7, October 17-21. Rehearsals to take place between 11:15am-3:30pm.

WHY: DanceWorks Chicago (DWC) is committed to building a foundation for early career artists by providing a laboratory from which dancers and choreographers propel themselves and the art form to a new level of artistry.

Building on DWC’s on-going commitment to encourage new work via DanceChance, DanceMoves provides another layer of opportunity for Chicago-based choreographers. A Chicago-Born organization, DanceWorks Chicago is excited to continue to develop ways for local choreographers to shine and proudly contributes to the city’s cultural landscape by encouraging creativity and promoting excellence.

 

HOW: Interested choreographers should submit the following electronically to Artistic Director Julie Nakagawa via jnakagawa@danceworkschicago.org by 5pm on Friday, September 2:

  • Bio (program-ready)
  • Statement of intent: a one-page proposal describing your vision for this project and how this work would complement your artistic growth
  • Link(s) to work sample(s), not to exceed 10 minutes, please, of work created within the past two years. The sample may be studio or performance footage of a complete work(s) or an excerpt(s).
  • Availability for the above work periods, ranking preference from 1-4.

There is NO application fee.

Receipt of applications will be acknowledged, and all candidates will be notified of their status by Tuesday, September 6.

Each choreographer will have a total of 20 hours in the studio to create a new work for DanceWorks Chicago, including the opportunity to teach class and lead one in-studio culminating event to unveil their creation. DanceWorks Chicago will host a DanceMoves Showcase at the Ruth Page Center Theater on Sunday, October 30.

FEE to choreographers: $500
